Dear Seth, many thanks for the acceptance and your work on Microlite 20 (M20). I have some noob questions. First, for context, I am very new to the D&D system, having only played (Game Mastered) Traveller Classic and Fasa Trek before. I mainly want to game sci-fi and modern campaigns, using D&D 5e as it is the most likely way for me to get players where I am now. I plan to invite 5e gamers to my campaign. Accordingly, I invested in the 5e system (bought the official core books, and Dias Ex Machina’s Amethyst and Ultramodern 5e). I also just bought the D20 modern/future main books, and downloaded just about every D20 sci-fi homebrew setting around. BUT I feel so overwhelmed. I look to M20 as a much more manageable system, and I love the idea of its simple mechanics but most especially the ability to use the equipment and creatures of the full D20 game. Also, it is still part of the larger D&D family, so “selling” it to the 5e crowd here would be doable. I would like to show that M20 ultimately is compatible to full 5e. My question is this – generally, what are the main differences between M20 (as per the Cyclopedia) and the M20 5e variant ? What advice could you give on using M20 as, essentially, a stripped-down game system to be used in a Sci-Fi/Modern Campaign to be DM’d by a D&D neophyte (me) who has not much time to master 5e, with players who are from a 5e background. Would you recommend M20 Cyclopedia, M20 5e, or some other M20 variant ? Thanks !!!
