Is there a way of multclassing?

I have a player who wants to multiclass, and I was wondering how you would go about doing that?

If it were me, I would try it like this:

Multiclass Fighters: Gain +1 to attack and damage rolls. Access to additional combat superiority bonus dependent on fighter level (not total level.) Gain +2 bonus to Physical rolls. Can wear any armor and use shields. Can use Dexterity bonus for attacking with a light weapon and can dual-wield weapons (if they don't already have these abilities from being a rogue.)

Multiclass Rogues: Can use light armor. Gain +2 bonus to Subterfuge rolls. Can add Subterfuge score to sneak attacks if wearing light armor. Can use Dexterity bonus for attacking with a light weapon and can dual-wield weapons (if they don't already have these abilities from being a fighter.)

Multiclass Mages: Cannot use armor. Gain +2 bonus to Knowledge rolls. Can use arcane spells. Access to higher-level arcane spells dependent on mage level (not total character level.)

Multiclass Clerics: Can use light and medium armor. Gain +2 bonus to Communication rolls. Can use divine spells. Can turn undead (2 + MIND bonus + cleric level) times/day. Access to higher-level divine spells dependent on cleric level (not total character level.)

That should cover it for the most part. If you need some edition-specific stuff:

Second Edition Style: You cannot sneak attack if you are wearing armor rogues aren't proficient with. You cannot use arcane magic if you are wearing armor. Clerics cannot use bladed or edged weapons, even if they are a fighter.

Fifth Edition Style: You can cast spells while wearing armor if you are proficient with the armor you are wearing. You must have a hand free to do so.
