Conversion of 5E Monsters (or ovall Conversion Guide)

Hey, does anyone have a recommendation for converting monsters from 5E proper to Microlite? I'm using Microlite Fifth Adamantine as my "core" for rules, and I know the intent was for them to be compatible. But the advancement of class features in 5E, specifically those that deal (lots and lots of) damage, is missing in m20 Fifth. This leads me to believe that monsters should have HP (and potentially other stats) reduced so they're not completely overpowering...

Rather than rewrite all the monsters, it might be easier to just increase the damage characters do. As I don't play 5e (and haven't even looked at it in years, I can't give specific advice but you could start by adding +1 damage per character level -- at least for classes that are supposed to deal lots and lots of damage -- and see what that does.

Hmmm, that seems like a good solution, assuming the GM is going to use out of the box 5E creatures exclusively. Using anything written for m20 then puts the creatures at a disadvantage against the PCs "additional" damage, although admittedly perhaps not much of one.

Maybe I'll playtest it and see how it goes.

I'd either just use the 5e hit points for all or just not worry about it. 5e isn't an OSR game after all. 5e seems to be about "big damn heroes" being heroic, so being about to cut through m20-design monsters fairly easily might not be a huge issue in many campaigns.

Of course, a bit of searching would have revealed this is a thing that exists.

To sort of answer my own question here:

The last few sessions of our current game, where I've been using 5E-style stats for the critters the PCs have been facing, are revealing (I think) that my original fears were unfounded. As I worried about them being overpowered, I'd been pulling punches a little for a while now, in the form of powering encounters down just before they start. And as a result, the PCs have been having something of a cake walk to this point.

That is until the last session, where I didn't as much, and one of the PCs just barely made it through without going down. I'll keep an eye on this over the next couple sessions and report in again, but as of right now it's looking like the question of imbalance when aligning with 5E might not be the issue I thought it was.
