Update (19 Jun 23):

As I mentioned many weeks ago, maintaining the seldom used Wordpress side of this site became too much of a bother, especially as parts of Wordpress are constantly updating and some those updates break things -- like access to this forum. I'm finally had time to remove it. The forum should stop disappearing from view now.

As many of you know, my wife has had MS for about 20 years now. It has gotten to the stage where helping her takes a lot more of my time that it used to. This means visits to this board have become few and far between. I'm looking for a couple of members willing to help moderate this board. Note that if your idea of good moderation is anything similar the way boards like RPG.net are moderated, do not bother volunteering. Good moderation isn't about forcing your opinions, ideological positions, or biases on members via your power to gag and ban, it is about being helpful to all members (even those you don't like/disagree with), cleaning up after spammers, and enforcing the rules with the lightest hand possible and only doing so when the rules are actually broken. If you are interested in any message board moderation position on any board because of the supposed "power" it will give you, you are (IMHO) the wrong person for the job. If you are interested, PM me. It may taken quite a while to reply, unfortunately.

I like the new initiative idea.
Maybe include an optional rule where initiative is just 10+DEX and only roll a DEX check in cases where multiple characters have the same initiative?
Could make things run a smidge faster.

I really like this idea. Makes things go quickly and it adds only 2 sentences to the rules.

And for the love of Batman, please do for mage spellbooks what the D&D Next playtest promised (and I'm still irritated about that it's gone.)

I missed this the first time around. I don't remember this but I only looked at a couple of the 5e playtest packets (and no longer seem to have even those). If you can explain what this was, I'll be happy to consider it.

I've finally had a chance to do some more writing (instead of just playtesting) on Microlite2020. Here's the latest drafts (yes, drafts, I decided that a separate "Old School Edition" made more sense that trying to combine the rules.) Major changes: The separate Microlite20 2.0 Old School edition. Lots of optional rules added to the standard edition. If real life permits, their will probably be another draft (#4) of the standard edition in a few days with changes to the class powers.

Here's Draft 4 of the Microlite20 2.0 rules. Major changes/additions:

1) Each class now has three "class abilities" (previously called "class powers" ) instead of a different number for each class.
2) Fighters lose their multiple attacks (which are generally a pain in play) but gain adding their level to weapon damage. This with their new "cleave" class ability should more than make up for losing extra attacks at high level.
3) Initiative is now more or less as described in my September 29 post above. There are optional rules with other methods.
4) Combat rules reorganized.
5) Optional (very simple) rules for using minis.

Comments are very much welcome. Barring as yet unnoticed issues or new ideas, we will probably be moving to release candidates soon.

Yay! My initiative idea is there as an option! :3

Good stuff all around so far.
I really like the classes having 3 abilities each.
(Though, Fighters and Rogues also get Weapon Finesse and Two-Weapon Fighting. :P)

I still don't really like the term Body Points.
I think I'll call them Constitution Points instead.

Can't wait to see the finished version.

It's a good rule that worked well in playtest.

I've been using the term since 1977 -- when I stole borrowed the term and the concept from the first edition of Chivalry & Sorcery. However, I will try using Wound Points in the next draft and see how that works.

I figured it must have been something from a ways back.
I was actually born in 78. (Not relevant, just meaningless coincidence.)

Wound points sounds better for sure.

PS- In the racial background lists...
Instead of con-woman, which kinda implies only females are unscrupulous, how about con-artist?

Good catch! Changed in Draft 5. Thank you very much for mentioning it.

OK, so this is basically just opinion really and is only my impression after using the latest draft as a base for my own purposes.

I was looking at the alternate stat generation options.
For context, my purpose was to incorporate some of the concepts from Pathfinder 2 into the character generation process in order to maximize customization during character creation.
To that end I looked at the Array and Point-Buy options in comparison to the stat ranges of the base game.

One thing I noticed right off the bat is that either the Arrays are a bit anemic or the Point-Buy is too OP.
What I did was set up a quick spread sheet to tally up points when using the Point-Buy system.
Then I made a copy in reverse that takes stat values and calculates the amount of points you would need to have to get there.
The results were that the Average Array would only cost 24 points to achieve, and the Heroic Array came in better at 36 points.

Personally, I think the Point-Buy option might be a bit too generous.

I'm not following you. Here what I have for Average Array/Average Point Buy (in Draft 5, however, I do not believe I have changed it from earlier drafts).

Array (Average): Assign 15 to one stat, 11 to another stat, and 7 to the remaining stat.

Point Buy (Average): Characters have 33 stat points Assign these points to the character’s stats with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 18 in each stat.

The stats in the array add up to 33 (15+11+7 = 33) which is not same number of points players get to assign to stats with the Average Point Buy.

Color me confused on the average array/buy values?

You've caught a typo on the Heroic point buy, however. The points available should be 45 (17+15+13). Now fixed in Draft 5. Thank you!
